Alfa Romeo armors up the Giulia for the carabineers

The Italian automaker has revealed a special modification of its Giulia sedan to be used by the country’s police. Highlights include an armored body, stylish design cues, and a detention cage.

The car is based off an entry-level specification. Its 2.0-liter turbo four-pot delivers 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic. Standard sprint time for this specification is 6.6 seconds, and the top speed is 230 km/h (143 mph).

The doors and windows boast B4-grade ballistic protection. A few headlamps with individual air deflectors reside on the roof, while LED-based flashing lights complement the side mirrors. The cabin can accommodate up to three police officers and a single offender.

The special edition marks 70 years of cooperation between Alfa Romeo and the Carabineers. Alfa Romeo 1900 was the first sedan the police force received from the company, but there is no forgetting the 1900M Matta off-roader that served the police even earlier than that.

The production limit will be set to 1,770 units.
