In April this year, niche automaker Totem GT electric announced a series of carefully restored Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA vehicles hailing back to the 1960s. The first completed restomod departed from the garage this week.
The tuner says that the work took three long years to finish and that the car retains about 10 percent of the original chassis. This sounds amazing when you consider that the aluminum-bodied vehicle looks like a genuine production car.
One of the more interesting features of the project is the drivetrain: the old 190-hp (142-kW) mill gives way to a modern 2electron McFly powertrain good for 518 hp (386 kW). What makes this restomod special is how the tuner decided to approach the various design decisions. For one, the electric motor was put in between the axles for optimum weight distribution and better cornering performance. For another, the transmission was tweaked to vibrate in a very characteristic and recognizable way upon switching gears. Finally, as many as 13 external speakers were installed to imitate engine sound. A commendable approach!
Other parameters of the project and the involved costs remain undisclosed so far.
