Have you noticed how fast the priorities have been changing in the automotive industry lately? Just a little while ago, you used to buy a sports utility vehicle (SUV) to drive it into the wilderness – or perhaps in places where the roads are far from perfect. These days, people increasingly prefer to have their SUVs rolling on the perfect tarmac. Unsurprisingly, more and more manufacturers build performance-oriented crossovers that can even hold their own on racetracks.
Apparently willing to join in on the trend, Alfa Romeo has recently posted a video of its Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV besting the records on three racetracks across Great Britain. Piloted by David Brise, the car completed the Silverstone lap in 2:31.6, the Donington Park Circuit in 1:21.1, and the Brands Hatch track in 0:55.9.
This is not the first time the Stelvio comes out on top of the competition, though. Two years ago, the car scored the best time on the North Loop of the Nürburgring Circuit in Germany (7:51.7 in the SUV category).
The vehicle sports a lightweight body optimized for aerodynamic efficiency above all else. It packs a 510-hp / 380-kW strong Ferrari engine and boasts uniquely tweaked chassis and suspension.
