Alfa Romeo has long kept the development of its first plug-in hybrid crossover – the Tonale – in mystery, leaving us to speculate about it looking at spy shots. However, with the official premiere set for February 8 now, teasers come flowing.
The latest 15-second video briefly shows us a rather bulky steering wheel, a company logo embroidered in red on a headrest, and an Italian tricolor somewhere on the body. The whole remains hidden, but we have seen the spy pics already and know that the SUV comes with digital infotainment and dashboard displays, although the latter sports an analog-inspired styling.
Rumor has it that the Tonale will be based on the same platform and tech as the Jeep Compass 4xe, including its PHEV powertrain capable of 240 PS (237 hp / 176 kW). Then again, traditional petrol and diesel engines should also be available.
