The Alfa Romeo Tonale debuted with two drivetrain options in the United States in in early 2022, including an affordable 2.0-liter turbo. It is now official that this spec will not be available, leaving only the 1.3-liter PHEV alive.
The plug-in hybrid combines a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine driving the front wheels with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle for 276 PS (272 hp / 204 kW) total.
A representative of Alfa Romeo confirmed the information, adding that the company saw its future in electric vehicles and that hybrids were an important milestone on the way to that future.
The Alfa Romeo Tonale will hit the showroom floors in North America in early 2023, rumored to start above $30,000.
