The carabiners of Italy will take advantage of a fleet of 400 part-electric Alfa Romeo Tonale SUVs in their professional work. The shipments are set to begin this July.
In case you forgot, the Tonale Hybrid uses a four-cylinder engine rated at 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW) and a 48V electric motor adding 20 PS (20 hp / 15 kW) and 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) of torque of its own. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission conveys the momentum to the wheels.
Aside from the trademark carabiner livery and flashing lights, each SUV will get a modified interior optimized for flak jackets and small arms. A single detainment cage will also be provided.
Last but not least, the supplier claims the SUVs are armored. The extent of ballistic protection remains unknown, though.
