Alfa Romeo shares a mystery teaser promising a ‘new era’

Alfa Romeo’s latest teaser pic shows a darkened silhouette of a car with only the taillights in view and the caption ‘A new era begins.’ It looks like we are in for something completely different.

That said the light signatures do resemble those of the Tonale SUV (shown in the rest of the gallery below and the video). The Tonale is already available with a variety of powertrains, including plug-in hybrid. The platform it is based on allows for creating pure EVs, but Alfa Romeo hasn’t announced such a version yet despite revealing its multi-year electrification strategy a while ago.

Still, everything hints that the vehicle in the teaser is all-electric. The hint about the ‘new era’ coming is the biggest giveaway. In one of its earlier press releases, the company said it wanted its first EV to be a crossover sized smaller than the Tonale. This is probably it.

For the platform, Alfa Romeo will likely use the STLA Small chassis of the Opel Mokka-e and the Peugeot e-2008. The production will probably take place at the Stellantis factory in Poland, and the market launch should happen next year. According to some sketches leaked early this fall, the vehicle may be named Alfetta or Brennero.
