Alpina B4 breaks cover with 495 PS

BMW made it clear last year that there would be no M4 Gran Coupe, but Alpina saw a gap it could fill and started working on its own version, the B4 Gran Coupe. The car is here now, so let’s see what’s new and exciting.

Perhaps the biggest aesthetic change on the outside is the wheels. 20-inch, 20-spoke Alpina Classic rollers weigh only 12 kilos (14.5 lbs) each, crucially reducing the unspring mass. There are also a few new body kit parts, such as a front and rear spoiler.

Powering the custom car is a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder peaking at 495 metric horsepower (488 hp / 364 kW). An eight-speed A/T lets the car launch itself to highway speed in 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 301 km/h (187 mph).

Alpina claims it has made considerable improvements in the suspension and chassis departments to ensure “high dynamic performance at no expense of comfort”. In its standard guise, the coupe rides on Pirelli P Zero ALP tires, and ‘ALP’ stands for ‘Alpina’ to highlight that it is a custom tire model designed specifically for the B4 Gran Coupe.

Orders are already running, and the first deliveries are scheduled for July this year. Prices start from €91,800.
