French carmaker Alpine is in negotiations with Lotus to secure a partnership agreement that would help it produce two electric SUVs to compete with the likes of Porsche Macan and Cayenne.
The corresponding statement was made by Laurent Rossi, Alpine CEO, in his interview to Autocar. He pointed out that Lotus was ‘the most natural’ choice of partner in this matter. Furthermore, the British company is already working together with Alpine on an electric sports car project.
It would not be surprising if the company based its first e-SUV on the same platform as the Lotus Eletre shown in the gallery below. The finished car will likely not debut until 2027 or thereabouts. Per Laurent Rossi, both battery SUVs will be primarily designed for comfortable daily driving while offering plenty in terms of performance and handling ease.
