Alpine, currently the performance car division of Renault, has unveiled a concept car named the A290_β. The prototype will give birth to a production vehicle scheduled to go on sale next year. It looks like the top Renault 5 spec excusing the track-focused interior layout.
The three-door car features a sophisticated body kit, a large spoiler and original wheel rims. The side mirrors are mounted on the pylons, and the DRLs are X-shaped. Even though the car is fully electric, its fake hood has a fake intake on it.
A peek inside reveals a squared-off racing yoke and a driver’s seat in the middle. The passenger seats reside to the left and the right of the driver’s position, which Alpine claims highlights the sporty character of the car. The company also emphasizes that a layout like this has never been implemented in vehicles as compact as the Alpine A290_β.
The Renault 5 mentioned above comes with two electric powertrains to choose from – one rated at 108 PS (107 hp / 79 kW) and the other one capable of 132 PS (130 hp / 97 kW). The Alpine EV may be much stronger – we expect up to 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW). And if you are wondering what the Greek letter “beta” is doing in the model name, that’s the company’s way to tell us, officially, that the model is still in its beta version and liable to change underway to production.
