Alpine A110 Rally debuts at the French Rally Championship

During the recently concluded 2019 FFSA French Rally Championship, car manufacturer Alpine has demonstrated a new mid-engine rally car based on its resurrected A110 coupe series.

The original Alpine A110 used to be produced in the 1960s and 70s and obtained an iconic status due to successful participation in rally events. Its newest implementation comes based on the modern A110S tech with some components borrowed from the A110 GT4 and A110 Cup racecars.

Highlights include Sabelt bucket seats, six-point safety harnesses, a special roll cage, a protected fuel reservoir, new ABS and traction control systems, a limited-slip differential, adjustable suspension and Brembo brakes.

The car inherits its 1.8L I4 turbo engine from the standard A110S, but gains a boost to 300+ hp (225+ kW, no specific figure provided). The A110S packs 292 hp (218 kW) along with 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.4 seconds and maxes out at 260 km/h (162 mph) due to an electronic limiter.

One more major feature of the A110 Rally comes in the form of a six-speed sequential gearbox (the main A110 series packs 7-speed DCT).

The French carmaker is currently busy polishing the dynamics of the rally car with the assistance from rally champions. Prices for private racing teams will begin at €150,000, and first shipments are expected in early 2020.
