You will not find a French sports car more iconic than the Alpine A110, and one such car hit the auction block in Italy this week with no starting bid.
The vivid blue coupe was pieced together in 1973 as a 1600S model. It still has the original wheels and engine, which is a four-pot with dual Weber 45 carburetors. The rest underwent a comprehensive restoration in 2010 that saw the exterior paint and chrome renewed and the interior re-trimmed in black imitation leather.
Modern touches on the car include adjustable Koni dampers, a textured aluminum dash plate, a safety cage, and a MOMO steering wheel wrapped in leather.
The A110 on sale has a five-speed manual transmission and only around 35,000 km (21,700 miles) of use on it. The first generation came out in 1963 and went out of production in 1977. It was available with a large number of engines to choose from, but the example on sale has the largest displacement (1.6L) and the most power (140 hp / 138 hp / 103 kW).
