Alpine to attend the Race to the Clouds for the first time

French automaker Alpine has shared a single teaser pic of the car it will take to this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in the state of Colorado, USA. It will be a heavily modified version of the track-only A110 GT4 model shown in the video and the rest of our gallery below.

We only know a few bits about the build so far. For one, the aerodynamic kit will be significantly overhauled to ensure that the racer stays competitive throughout the entire climb – a challenging task given the frequent altitude variations. The teaser reveals a large rear wing and a fin linking it to the roof.

The A110 GT4 might approach the start line with its stock engine under the hood. Depending on the modification, the 1.8-liter turbo mill can output between 330 and 360 PS (325–355 hp; 243–265 kW). A six-speed sequential transmission drives the rear wheels.

The Race to the Clouds counts among the world’s oldest and at the same time most famous racing events. Its route takes drivers along a 20-kilometer (12.4-mile) long mountain trail with 156 turns. The start line resides at a lofty 2,865 m (9,400 feet) above sea level and the participants proceed to ascend another 1,440 m (4,725 feet) to the finish.

This year’s Pikes Peak hill climb takes place on June 25.
