Alpine A110 gains a 500-PS one-off special

Carmaker Alpine has shared some official shots of the upcoming tuned edition of its A110 sports coupe. In its ultimate form, the car rocks a body kit dominated by a giant rear wing and commands over 500 PS (493 hp / 368 kW).

It is official that there will be no production run. Instead, the car is meant to introduce Alpine to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race, which the company had never taken part in before.

The aspiring hill climber comes equipped with a massive front splitter rounded off with large side blades, a prominent rear diffuser, a spoiler and sealed wheels. The rear wing consists of two pieces, and the engine bay lid flaunts a fin the likes of which we have seen on Le Mans racecars.

Modifications made it into the lighting department as well. The headlights are styled as thin LED stripes, and the brake lights now reside on the vertical supports of the aero arrangement at the back.

Other than the power output mentioned above, Alpine stays tight-lipped about engine and chassis modifications. It does say that the whole car weighs as little as 950 kilos (2,095 pounds).

The next Pikes Peak race will be held on June 25 this year. It follows a winding mountain road with as many as 156 turns, and the pilots ascend to nearly 1.5 kilometers (4,900 feet) above starting point. Alpine’s desire to participate may denote interest in the North American market.
