Alpine has posted a handful of live photos and certain technical specifications of its A110 Pikes Peak racecar heading to the Race to the Clouds later this year.
The car is the lightest and at the same time the most powerful Alpine in the marque’s recent history. It is styled to resemble the road-legal A110 coupe, but boasts numerous aerodynamic optimizations, new dual-wishbone suspension and a different engine.
The cylinder block has the same 1.8 liters of displacement, but manages to extract a whopping 500 horsepower (507 PS / 373 kW) out of this tiny volume, which it sends to the rear wheels through a sequential transmission. The suspension benefits from ALP Racing components – the French company is a rally racing partner of Renault. The brakes come from Brembo and have six calipers alongside 355mm (13.87-inch) rotors. The wheels measure 17 inches in diameter.
The whole car is 4,230 x 1,850 x 1,240 mm large (L/W/H) with 2,415 mm between the axles. It is therefore only marginally bigger than the street-going version – likely due to the bulky body kit. On the upside, it weighs in at 950 kilos (2,094 pounds) – 130 kilos (286 pounds) less than the A110 GT4 Evo racer does. It is intriguing how Alpine managed to strip it so thoroughly, considering that the monocoque and the rest of the bodywork are still aluminum.
The manufacturer says the European test stage is now officially complete, and the coupe is ready for its flight to the United States on Monday. Once there, it will continue to be tested on the spot until the race takes place on June 25, 2023.
