How much can you ask for a 1972 AMC Javelin redesigned from the ground up to look like a post-apocalyptic machine from Mad Max 2? This example has recently cropped up on Facebook Marketplace, and the last time we checked it cost a cool $15,000.
Like its movie prototype, the 52-year-old sports car was finished completely in matte black and put on custom wheels shod in Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires. The tuner lifted the suspension a little for further semblance, but we still wouldn’t go as far as to drive it off-road.
The stock 5.0-liter V8 received a full overhaul with new valve seals, cylinder head assembly, superior Edelbrock camshafts, lifters, and timing gear/chain. The listing doesn’t mention any output figures, but points out that the transmission also needed an upgrade that included planetary gears and a Hughes torque converter, among other things. The one thing that’s fake is the supercharger sticking out of the hood.
A peek inside the cabin reveals a very cheap-looking trim with stripped doors and fake leather on the seats. The dashboard gauges are retro as well, and there is a fire extinguisher at the back.
This isn’t the only Mad Max Javelin conversion out there – check out the video for a similar-looking one.
