At the Geneva Motor Show that started yesterday, Aston Martin has revealed its third mid-engine hypercar concept, previously only known as the Project 003. The car is now officially called the AM-RB 003 and sports a rear wing that can change its shape automatically.
The design and tech of the new rear wing are courtesy of Red Bull Advanced Technologies, Aston Martin’s long-standing partner.
In conceptualizing the innovative design, the team drew inspiration from similar aeronautical solutions. The wing has built-in adaptive winglets that can be unfolded using a release mechanism.
The AM-RB 003 is otherwise quite similar to the Aston Martin Valkyrie. The two cars share the general body outlines and lighting, even though the concept has a different light pattern. The cabin of the hypercar feels roomy enough, with a trunk area situated directly behind the seats and a glove compartment in its usual place as well. The digital dashboard is located on the steering wheel, and the multimedia system requires you to attach a smartphone to it to act as a touchscreen interface.
As you can see on the photos, there is an interesting stripe with vertical ribs running along the dashboard and door panels. The manufacturer says that this is a multi-purpose element that can be used for heating, cooling, lighting, and audio playback.
The dashboard is 100% printed using a 3D printer, and the interior trim makes intensive use of various composites.
The Aston Martin AM-RB 003 sports a lightweight carbon body and comes powered by a hybrid powertrain based on a turbocharged six-cylinder engine.
The production quantity will not exceed 500 units.
