Luxury carmaker Aston Martin has applied for the trademark ‘Valen’, which, whether incidental or not, is Latin for ‘strong’. It is also the name of a spaceship from the Babylon V series.
If we had to guess, we’d say the name could go to the production version of the AM-RB 003 Concept hypercar that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The company plans to limit the production to just 500 units.
An innovative rear wing design, called FlexFoil, was one of the main features of the AM-RB 003 Concept. The company says it borrowed the scientific principle from aeronautics, where they use it to design adaptive aerodynamic flaps built into aircraft wings. Special devices called actuators are used to extend the flaps and thus change the shape of the wing to minimize aerodynamic drag.
The alleged Aston Martin Valen will likely ship with an in-house designed hybrid powertrain based on a turbo V6 engine. The company also says that the vehicle will take advantage of the same lubrication and suspension systems as the ones adopted by the AM Vulcan racecar.
