The original Aston Martin DBR-1 speedster rolled off the assembly lines back in 1956. In the three years that followed, the car has won the Le Mans grand prix and numerous other races.
In 2017, a DBR-1 went under the hammer for U.S. $22.5 million – an absolute record for a British automotive classic. No wonder this prompted the British automaker to consider giving the series a second birth.
The modern interpretation of the DBR-1 might actually be unveiled later on this year. Rumor has it that AM allowed a sneak peek at a finished prototype of the car to a narrow range of admirers at the Pebble Beach show in August, and that the reaction was extremely favorable.
Needless to say, technical specs are non-existent yet, but it stands to reason that the alleged new DBR-1 should utilize Aston Martin’s latest front-engine chassis design.
A number of other iconic automobile brands, such as Ferrari and Porsche, have a long history of resurrecting classics based on historical models, so maybe it is time AM joined the club as well.
