Mercedes-Benz’s engines for Aston Martin will be different, AM exec says

Lawrence S. Stroll, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aston Martin, said that the engines that his company ordered from Mercedes-Benz would be original and not identical to those used in Mercedes-AMG cars.

He admitted that designing from scratch was not on the list, either, but assured that all turbocharged V8 engines Mercedes would make for Aston Martin cars would sport a number of modifications and output different amounts of power.

It is worth remembering that not long ago, Aston Martin actually wanted to become independent from the Mercedes V8 TT engine range by developing its own V6 as a replacement (shown in the video). However, no mention of that engine has been made lately, so it looks like the automaker could shelve the idea for now.

The two companies also have cooperation agreements running in the area of vehicle electrification. Aston Martin hopes that the assistance of Mercedes-Benz will enable it to hybridize between 20 and 25 percent of all sold cars in four years’ time, and begin producing pure EVs by 2026. In return, the German corporation pledges to increase its ownership share in Aston Martin from 2.6 to 20 percent over the same period.
