Aston Martin assures that V8 shortage is somebody else’s problem

Reports poured in a few days ago that Mercedes-Benz was facing serious supply issues capable of disrupting its V8 production schedule and possibly also affecting Aston Martin, which uses Mercedes engines. Apparently, this will not be the case.

A representative of the company made an official statement that the engine supply proceeded in a timely fashion, and that all those who ordered Aston Martin cars worldwide would get them in time.

As you may have heard, semiconductor shortage caused many V8-equipped Mercedes cars to drop out of the North American lineup. Customers have recently been unable to buy even the highest-profit luxury models, such as the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 and the upper echelon of the Mercedes-AMG. The S 580 and its Maybach counterpart were the only two exceptions.

Rumor has it that the deficit may eventually expand to other markets as well, but the companies refrain from making official comments to that effect. Aston Martin, however, claims with confidence that all deliveries will be made on time. One possible explanation is that the British sports car maker is a special client of Mercedes, and enjoys certain benefits when it comes to product deliveries.
