The British luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin has revealed several important details concerning the company’s first-ever crossover SUV, Varekai, which should enter production in 2019.
According to Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer, the new car will be getting two gasoline-only engines to choose between, a purpose-built V12 turbo and a V8 twin-turbo by Mercedes-AMG. The company decided against using diesel engines because of the relatively low market demand and found the hybrid drivetrain just too expensive for the model. Going all-electric would be nice, but the drivetrain would then have to be developed by Lagonda, a dedicated sub-brand founded by Aston Martin especially for this purpose.
It has been revealed earlier that the design of the new Aston Martin Varekai will chiefly draw inspiration from the DBX Concept which debuted at the Geneva International Motor Show 2015.
