World’s first Aston Martin DB12 sold for 7x the price

Less than two days after the premiere of the new Aston Martin DB12, the first production car went under the hammer at the amfAR Gala, Cannes. The buyer forked over U.S. $1.6 million (€1.5M), which is around seven times as much as the base price of the DB12. Deliveries are set to begin in Q3.

The example sold at the Gala was additionally tuned at Q by Aston Martin, ending up with special fender badges, embroidered headrests and custom kick plates. It was also adorned with the signatures of the racing drivers from Aston Martin’s Formula racing team, Lance Stroll (son of Lawrence Stroll, AM Chairman of the Board of Directors) and Fernando Alonso.

All the proceeds will be donated to AIDS research.

In essence, the new DB12 is a refreshed version of the DB11 model it is based on. Neither the chassis nor the body is too different in this new version. The front end looks fresh, though, there is a new infotainment UI, and the outdated in-house-designed V12 makes room for a boosted Mercedes-AMG V8.
