Aston Martin has unveiled a convertible named the DB12 Volante. The car wound up with an intricate eight-layer soft top and the same top speed as its coupe twin – 325 km/h, or 202 mph.
The roof is power-assisted and takes 14 seconds to retract (and 16 seconds to raise). It can be activated remotely from within 2 meters (6.5 feet) of the car or on the go, but you will need to decelerate to 50 km/h (31 mph) or less for the mechanism to work.
The base top finish is black, but customers can specify red, blue or black/silver.
A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 671 PS (662 hp / 494 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal links to an eight-speed auto transmission and benefits from an electronic rear diff lock. Sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 3.7 seconds – only one-tenth of a second longer than the coupe.
Elsewhere, the car features a carbon-fiber driveshaft, 400mm brake rotors at the front, 360mm ones at the rear, and 21-inch forged wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires.
A peek inside reveals a new multimedia system with a 10.25-inch display and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay support. The audio system is represented by a high-end Bowers & Wilkins setup comprising 11 speakers and rated at 1,170 watts.
The production is set to begin later in Q3 2023. The first cars will reach their owners in Q4, Aston Martin says.
