DBS Superleggera goes convertible in the Volante edition

Up until now, the most powerful FWD supercar from Aston Martin only used to be available in the coupe version. Things have changed today, since you may now pre-order your own DBS Superleggera Volante convertible starting from €296,000. Shipments will begin in the third quarter of 2019.

The vehicle comes equipped with an eight-layer soft top that takes 14 seconds to retract and two more to unfold. You may accomplish this either from inside the car or using a remote control that has 2 meters (6.5 ft.) of range.

In order to keep the vehicle brisk and agile, the manufacturer had to make alterations in the rear and enlarge the air louvers in the fenders. As a result, whenever the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante hits its maximum speed of 340 km/h (211 mph), it experiences 177 kilograms (390 lbs) of downforce, a mere 3 kilos (6.6 lbs) below its coupe counterpart.

Mechanically, the car remains identical to its closed-top version, packing the same 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 rated at 725 hp (541 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lbft) of torque, linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.6 seconds – 0.2s slower than the coupe can do – due to 170 kilograms (375 lbs) of added weight needed to make its frame rigid and stable. The resulting weight amounts to 1,863 kg (4,107 lbs).
