Aston Martin DBX goes part-electric with its first new engine

Aston Martin has unveiled a new version of its best-selling SUV, the DBX, which goes by the self-explanatory name of Straight Six and will only be available in China.

Whereas the international version of the SUV relies on a four-liter V8 to propel it forward with 550 PS (542 hp / 404 kW), the Chinese car uses a three-liter straight-six engine rated at 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW). A nine-speed automatic transmission conveys the torque to the wheels assisted by an electric starter-generator.

This makes the Straight Six the first hybrid vehicle in Aston Martin’s portfolio. The AWD system is still there, as is the self-adjusting suspension. Dynamics-wise, the new modification needs 5.4 seconds for a sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph).
