Aston Martin teases the upcoming V12 Speedster

The British luxury carmaker has announced the coming of a new supercar series limited to just 88 units. As the images clearly indicate, it will have twelve cylinders under the hood.

The V12 Speedster has been co-designed with Q by Aston Martin, the company’s in-house customization shop, and reportedly takes advantage of plentiful technical solutions found in motorsports and the aeronautical industry. Its exterior is reminiscent of the iconic DBR1 racecar that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans back in 1959, while borrowing certain cues from the CC100 Concept shown on the video here. The company created the latter to celebrate its 100th birthday in 2013.

The V12 Speedster will arrive powered by a 5.2-liter turbocharged engine rated at 700 hp (522 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. The same unit is also found in the DBS Superleggera, where it churns out 725 hp (541 kW) along with 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque, as well as the DB11 AMR, where it produces 639 hp (477 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). The drive is on the rear axle, and the transmission is eight-speed automatic. Launch times remain unannounced.

Aston Martin is already accepting pre-orders for the limited series, despite the still pending pricing and reveal date.
