It’s Official: Aston Martin retires V12 after 2026 or so

In the sunset days of the internal combustion engine era, Aston Martin might as well remain the last V12 vendor on the market. The company said it was committed to keeping twelve-pots alive for as long as possible, but the writing is on the wall now.

Speaking at a press meeting before the reveal of the new DBX707, company CEO Tobias Moers said the company did not intend to design a new V12 from scratch ever again. Instead, it will be modifying the current engine little by little to keep it in line with the emission laws, as long as it is possible.

Moers also mentioned that Euro-7 is coming to the EU in 2025 or around that year. The new standard will all but preclude performance cars from using a naturally aspirated V12. He pointed out that most other automakers expect their twelve-cylinders to go obsolete by 2024 or 2025, while Aston Martin will actively attempt to keep it for longer. It will not be much longer, though.

The Vantage V12 featured in our gallery here will be the luxury marque’s last surviving model with this unique naturally aspirated powertrain.
