Aston Martin working on Vantage GT3 / GT4 racecars

Aston Martin, a UK-based luxury sport car manufacturer, has been designing two racetrack-only modifications of its Vantage supercar, GT3 and GT4. Piloted by Ross Gunn, a development mule of one of these cars will participate in a Le-Mans demo race this weekend.

The Vantage GT3 won’t be complete until at least March 2019, but we already have a few important bits of information to go by. For one, the racecar is going to get a four-liter, eight-cylinder turbocharged Mercedes-Benz engine with more than 540 hp / 403 kW at its disposal. The engine is going to work in conjunction with a six-speed sequential transmission. For another, it is going to take advantage of high-performance Alcon braking mechanisms and adjustable shock absorbers. Last but not least, Aston Martin engineers are going to reduce the weight of the Vantage GT3 by almost 300 kg (660 lb) to a total of 1,245 kg (2,745 lb).

A copy of one of these two GT racecars (there is no indication which one) is going to enter the Pirelli World Challenge and the VLN endurance race armed with a 510hp / 380kW engine.

The series-produced Aston Martin Vantage gets from a standstill to 100 km/h (60 mph) in 3.6 seconds and accelerates to a maximum of 314 km/h (195 mph).
