Audi A6, A7, A8, Sportback & Q5 now available in hybrid form

The Audi hybrid car lineup has expanded to incorporate hybrid (PHEV) versions of the A6, A7, A8, Sportback, and Q5. All of the models listed above get the “TFSI e” suffix to denote hybrid powertrain.

The environment-friendly Audis come in two trim versions, one optimized for performance and the other for fuel efficiency. The performance versions also sport revised suspension.

All models get a gasoline engine, an electric motor and a 14.1 kWh large traction battery promising up to 40 kilometers (25 miles) of all-electric range. As plug-in hybrids, they all support the regenerative brake feature.

The Audi A8 L 60 TFSI e ships with 449 hp (335 kW). The Audi A6, A7 and Q5 ship in two variants. The 50 TFSI version offers 299 hp (224 kW), while the 55 TFSI e version comes with 368 hp (274 kW).

There are also three new powertrain modes to switch between, Hold (saves up the battery charge for later), Combo (normal hybrid operation) and All-Electric (self-explanatory). The on-board electronic system will even educate the driver to apply throttle in a way that would maximize fuel/power efficiency at all times.
