Audi Q4 e-tron debuts with “unprecedented level of room comfort”

Audi has held a premiere of its all-electric SUV concept called the Audi Q4 e-tron during the first day of the 2019 Geneva show. The production car is expected to reach the market in late 2020.

Based on the VW MEB chassis, the crossover vehicle measures 4,590 mm (15.06 ft.) long and 1,900 mm (6.23 ft.) wide with 2,770 mm (9.09 ft.) between the axles. According to the company, the rather liberal dimensions of the Q4 e-tron enable “an unprecedented level of room comfort.” In particular, Audi refers to the available legroom both in front and in the back.

The coupe-SUV comes driven by two electric motors jointly rated at 302 hp (225 kW). It needs 6.3 seconds to get going at 100 km/h (62 mph) and never goes beyond 180 km/h (112 mph) over safety concerns. Once fully charged, it can be driven for around 450 km (280 mi) before charging becomes necessary once again. Replenishing the battery from zero to 80% is a matter of 30 minutes when using a rapid-charge station.

The car sports a massive radiator grille, wide fenders, large air intakes, LED lighting and inscriptions on its sills and bumpers that say “e-tron”.

The inside space is dominated by a huge infotainment touchscreen display sitting next to a Q3-style digital instrument panel.

The non-electric Audi Q4 will enter production sooner than its all-electric counterpart will. The manufacturer does not say anything about engine availability, but rumors claim the Q4 will ship with the same engine choices as the Q3. This means 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter gasoline engines rated between 150 and 230 hp (112 – 172 kW), and a 2.0-liter diesel with uncertain specs.
