The German automaker intends to phase out internal combustion engines and switch to pure electric power in a few decades.
Audi CEO Markus Düsmann said last October that it was ‘still too early’ to abandon the ICE segment of the market. However, in his latest interview, he admitted that eventual electrification appears inevitable. The company should come up with a strategy for it in the coming months.
Audi unveiled 5 BEVs and 12 hybrids last year, and is planning to launch another 10 hybrids and two dozen BEVs by 2025. This would raise the EV share in Audi global sales from just 3.5% to 40%. Until that moment, the company pledges to continue reducing emissions across its entire ICE range.
