Audi unleashes a big electric SUV on the test track

Audi showcased multiple new cars at the Auto Shanghai show earlier this year, including the A7L sedan and the A6 E-Tron Sportback. However, there was also an unnamed SUV with a number plate reading ‘Audi Concept Shanghai’ (see video), which slipped our attention back at the time.

It is now official that the SUV becomes a production model before the end of 2021, and testing of its early versions is in full swing in Europe right now. Pictured in our gallery is one such test vehicle.

The dimensions look considerably larger than even those of the Q4 E-Tron, suggesting that the model will offer plenty of interior space and compete against the China-only Volkswagen ID.6. It follows that the new model will be restricted to that market, too.

The three-row crossover SUV has MEB underpinnings and 2,965 mm (9.73 feet) of wheelbase. It comes equipped with dual electric motors exceeding 300 horsepower (225 kilowatts) and AWD. A single-motor, RWD version might be released as well.
