German premium car manufacturer Audi is conducting negotiations with Chinese companies with the intention to obtain an EV platform, Automobilwoche reports without naming any specific brands.
It is also unclear how extensive the cooperation plans are. At the very least, the company could be looking for a base to produce some of its new electric cars upon. At most, it may be looking to open a joint-stock enterprise in China complete with a localized production line.
Some time earlier, VW CEO Oliver Blume openly admitted that he found the Volkswagen Group electric vehicles not competitive enough compared to their China-made counterparts. Furthermore, he said the company was affected by software development issues that saw multiple EV releases delayed.
