The series issue of the all-electric SUV Audi e-tron is going to have rear view cameras in place of the conventional side mirrors, the manufacturer has announced. The option will be available in all countries except those where the legislation won’t allow it.
The side cameras will transfer the signal onto a special display located between the front panel and the doors. The driver will be able to switch between three display modes: Parking, Turning, and Highway.
Among other advantages, the “virtual” mirrors will help reduce aerodynamic drag and improve noise insulation.
Each Audi e-tron will get a set of 19-inch wheels with new tire design, active air intakes for engine and brake cooling, a bottom guard plate and adjustable suspension. The latter will have an option to automatically lower the car body 26 mm closer to the ground when going at 120 km/h (75 mph) or faster.
Thanks to the improvements listed above, the aerodynamic drag coefficient (Cx) of the vehicle went down to an unbelievable low of 0.28. In turn, this enabled it to travel up to 400 km (250 mi) on a single charge of its 95 kWh li-ion battery.
No further information was revealed. The Audi e-tron will celebrate its official show premiere in Brussels, Belgium later this summer. It is likely to come priced at €80,000 or lower, which is €52,000 under the top-spec Tesla Model X.
