Winter Drag Race: Audi A1 vs. SQ7

Carwow usually sticks to smooth asphalt when it comes to comparing performance cars on the quarter-mile strip. But lately, the team has been experimenting with off-road races and even snow runs – like this one, featuring an Audi A1 and an SQ7.

The hatchback has the drive at the front axle, while the SQ7 plows snow with all four wheels. This difference alone would mean an easy victory for the crossover SUV, so Matt Watson decided to keep it shod in summer tires for the purposes of the race, while the hatchback received a set of winter tires.

Further unbalancing the comparison is the fact that the Audi A1 makes do with a turbocharged three-cylinder engine only good for 110 PS (108 hp / 81 kW) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque. The SQ7 is miles ahead with a four-liter V8 driving its wheels with 507 PS (500 hp / 373 kW) and 770 Nm (568 lb-ft) of torque.

In the end, it can be really hard to predict which of the cars will win. Watch the video, and you will see just how much proper tires mean on snow.
