The German car manufacturing giant Audi keeps refreshing its entire model palette. The next entry is the second generation of the five-door A1 Sportback series.
One of today’s teaser pics reveals the dashboard of the vehicle. The climate control once again offers traditional mechanical knobs instead of the sensor panel, a design decision many drivers will know to appreciate. Above those is an infotainment system with a touch-sensitive display and the word BARCELONA written across it – perhaps it is a hint at where the Audi A1 Sportback shall celebrate its premiere.
Another pic shows a bit of the car body next to a wheel. There are prominent sills, perhaps made of carbon, visible against the vivid yellow lacquering.
What else do we know about the next generation? Assembly will take place in the municipality of Martorell, Spain. The three-door version won’t make it to the market this time around due to poor sales. You can personalize your vehicle by installing a contrast roof, various body kit parts or one of the option packages, such as Active.
In addition to all of the above, the new Audi A1 Sportback series will be assembled on the MQB platform. This means it will be lighter than the old one, offer more interior space and come with such new options as the adaptive suspension and the all-wheel drive. The interior might get an optional digital instrument panel.
Rumor has it that the car will initially only ship with a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine capable of 115 hp / 86 kW. Reportedly, a 1.5L TFSI engine with 150 hp / 112 kW and a 2.0L unit capable of between 200 and 231 hp (150 – 172 kW) will become available later. A hybrid and a top-end version of the Audi A1 Sportback aren’t out of the question, either.
