The latest series of teaser images demonstrate the seat upholstery of the upcoming A3 made from recycled plastics. The company explains that the floor mats will use the same material.
Trimming one car like this takes about 100 PET bottles, 45 of which goes into the seats and the remaining 60 into the mats. Similar recycled materials also find use in noise proofing, floor and trunk lining, and some other areas.
The German automobile giant claims that the quality of the new seat covers is in no way inferior to the more traditional ones. At first, only two color schemes will be available: steel grey with yellow stitching and black/grey with light grey stitching. Pure black and red trims will go on sale later.
The company admits that the trim is not 100% made of recycled materials just yet, but the specialists direct their efforts towards fixing this in the near future.
The new Audi A3 will be shown for everyone interested at the Geneva IMS kicking off on March 3, 2020. The five-door hatchback will be the first to hit the showrooms, followed by the sedan/saloon some time later.
