Do you know these things called mood rings, that have stones in them that change color depending on your mood (but really your body temperature)? DipYourCar thought it would be nice to turn a whole car into a giant mood ring. Here’s what came out.
The tuner began by covering the body of an Audi A4 with a matte black Plasti Deep pigment. It then proceeded to apply as many as eight layers of a special chameleon pigment sensitive to heat. At first, it looked like the car was black and the experiment failed. A little application of heat, though, and it erupted into color.
DipYourCar never bothered to mention the involved costs, but we can imagine it being pretty expensive. Another point never addressed was the paint’s resistance to wear, damage and fading. There was simply not enough time for these tests, but DipYourCar says a few layers of transparent lacquer could accomplish much here.
