The new iteration of the Audi A4 is already in development, not just in sedan but also in wagon form. The latter has now been sighted at the Nürburgring running pre-production tests.
The A4 Avant prototype shown in the gallery here has a larger radiator grille that retains its hexagonal shape, but now extends as far as the headlights. The lower fascia has a trapezoid opening in it with a sensor installed. Vertical air openings can be seen at the outer sides.
Earlier spy shots of the same car revealed the cabin with a wide digital dash screen and a standalone infotainment display. The gear indicator was on the center console. Audi said there would be no manual gearbox option in the new generation.
It looks like the A4 will stick to its turbo-four engine, while the S4 will keep its V6 turbo. Due to the stiffening anti-emission laws in Europe, the appearance of a hybrid version is quite likely, too.
The new A4 should debut sometime in the next year, but we cannot say for sure whether Audi will reveal the Avant alongside the sedan or later.
