The weather is ideal in Germany right now for some pre-production vehicle tests, and Audi has decided not to miss the opportunity. This apparently camo-free A4 wagon has been photographed on the streets, but don’t mislabel it: it’s not called ‘A4 Avant’ anymore.
The reason is, the Ingolstadt-based carmaker announced a renaming of its entire vehicle range earlier this year. The idea is to use odd numbers like 3, 5 and 7 only for traditional ICE cars and even numbers like 4, 6 and 8 only for electric vehicles.
This means that the petrol-powered A4 Avant will be renamed to ‘A5 Avant’ in the next model year, while the larger and sportier A6 Avant will become known as ‘A7 Avant’. According to this new nomenclature, the car pictured in the gallery here is actually an A5 Avant.
As for the exterior updates, they seem minimal. The front fascia keeps its usual layout (see video) with a hexagonal grille and arrow-shaped headlights at the sides. The bumper looks different, the rear window seems narrower and the roof spoiler is slightly more pronounced, but that’s about all.
