The current generation of the Audi A5 Sportback has been around since 2016 without any major updates introduced since the release. However, as these recently made spy shots seem to indicate, a mid-generational refresh is in the works and should premiere before the end of the year. Let us see what it brings along.
The pics have clearly captured new bumpers, radiator grille, and headlights. One of the prototypes we saw had a different grille with a sparse honeycomb pattern, which could possibly denote an S line version. The trapezoid exhaust tips at the sides of the rear apron are an obvious fake, though, and will not make it into production.
The cabin remains a bit of a mystery so far. Rumors say the new A5 may get the same 10.1-inch touchscreen display as the A4, but this remains to be seen.
Aside from the visual changes, many expect the manufacturer to review the powertrains, possibly adding mild hybrid variants based on four-cylinder engines assisted by 12V electric motors and six-cylinder ones helped by 48V motors.
The Audi RS5 will have its body, cabin, and tech updated in a similar way later on.
