Audi A5 Sportback spied looking ready for production

Spy shots of the new Audi A5 Sportback have cropped up online for the second time in a year: the A5 Avant has been a much more frequent sighting so far (see video).

As you can tell by the rear end in the photos, though, this prototype is a liftback. It has what appears to be production-ready headlights and slim taillights showing from under the wrap. Things get more interesting from the side-view perspective: unlike the current wagon, which has frameless doors, the new generation apparently brings back the frames.

The exhaust tips at the back point to an internal combustion engine. Rumor has it that Audi only plans to equip the ā€˜S’ spec with a six-cylinder engine, while all other versions will make do with four cylinders in an electrified setup.

The exact premiere date remains unknown, but it is expected later this year.
