Next-gen Audi A6 Allroad fails to impress, mostly

Audi has introduced the next generation of its cross-country-going A6 Allroad – but the improvements over the predecessor are few and far between.

Air suspension, which is now standard for all trim configurations, is perhaps the single most interesting feature of the new Allroad. By default, the car keeps its road clearance at 139 millimeters (5.43 inches), but raises it to 169 mm (6.25”) when the Offroad Mode is activated. The maximum height amounts to an impressive 185 mm (7.22”), but maintaining it requires you to drive under 35 km/h (21.7 mph) at all times. Go past 120 km/h (75 mph), and it sinks to 124 mm (4.85”).

As far as looks are concerned, the new Allroad sports plastic guards, a radiator grille with vertical fins, beefy-looking roof railings, and an undershield. The car ships with 18-inch tires by default, but you may opt for 21-inch ones if you want to.

The cabin is virtually identical to that of the A6 Avant, expect for leather/fabric combo trim on the seats, a sofa with its back divided into three, and a power-assisted tailgate included in the standard trim.

In Europe, the car will ship with a mild hybrid powertrain based on a three-liter turbocharged diesel engine. There are three power options: 231, 286 and 349 horsepower (172, 213, and 260 kilowatts, respectively). All three ship with an eight-speed automatic transmission and AWD. Paying extra buys you four-wheel steering and active rear differential.

The 2019 Audi A6 Allroad will arrive on the market before the end of June priced starting from €61,500 in Germany.
