We have already reported that Audi intended to turn its A7 Sportback model into a stretch sedan meant exclusively for the Chinese market, and now, the car made its first public appearance.
Based on the photos, the rear end is where most of the changes took place. The car gained wheelbase length, dropped its slopped roofline to form a trunk, lost the tailgate and essentially became a saloon – admittedly, a rather disproportionate-looking one.
The production will take place at the SAIC-Audi factory in China. First pre-production units started rolling off the lines months ago, so the launch should be expected soon.
The current Audi A7 for China (watch the video) comes equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine available in 190 PS and 245 PS variants (187 / 242 hp; 140 / 180 kW, respectively). All trims use the same seven-speed DSG transmission and front-wheel drive. Whether the new sedan will be the same or different remains unknown.
