Audi gives up on V12 engines for the sake of the environment

The German automotive giant Audi has issued an official announcement saying its next-generation A8 sedan debuting this summer will be the last Audi vehicle to come with a V12 engine on board. The company decided against using such engines in the future because of progressively stricter environmental laws being passed in most countries over the world.

Is isn’t going to be exclusively about the V12, either. Audi has plans to gradually phase all V10 engines out of production as well.

Interestingly, the company issued its first V12-driven car as early as 2001. In the years that followed, technology has moved forward so fast that modern V8s ended up being much more capable than the old V12s.

Another German car brand – BMW – has also voiced plans to stop producing V12 engines some time earlier.
