The Ingolstadt automaker has confirmed that the 4N generation of the Audi A8 has reached the end of its production cycle. There’s no word on when the last assembly line shuts down, but many dealers in Germany are no longer accepting new orders.
Back in early 2024, the company let it slip that it may have introduced the all-electric Grandsphere Concept too early. That flagship saloon had been envisioned as a permanent replacement for the A8. However, the EV market has slowed down and sedans have failed to regain their slice of it from SUVs. Many of us supposed that no electric A8 meant at least one more facelift for the ICE version, but it now seems like the sedan is ready to bow out without any updates.
According to motor1.com citing an anonymous Audi representative, the A8 will get a successor of sorts – just not necessarily a sedan. In fact, the automaker is getting ready to unveil a full-size hybrid SUV called the Q9, and it might be the company’s attempt to fill in the gap left by the A8. Then again, there are no new details available that would let us speculate some more.
The original Audi A8 saw the light of day in 1994 and has since changed four generations. Throughout its entire lifecycle, the flagship sedan had been made in Neckarsulm, Germany.
