The car design studio ABT Sportsline was the first to release an options package for the Audi A8 D5 when it came out. It seems like the engineers wanted to have another go at the opulent sedan, hence the today’s announcement.
The package contains little exterior or interior improvements this time around. The only visual difference of the Audi A8 D5 with the second upgrade installed is a set of new matte-black ABT Sport GR design wheels with polished spokes.
Instead, the tuner team has put all of its effort into improving the engine. By installing the ABT Engine Control chip, owners of the 3.0-liter turbo diesel version of the car may improve its performance to a total of 330 hp (246 kW) and 650 Nm (480 lb·ft) of torque.
ABT says the gasoline version will also get an upgrade later. No dynamic performance data are available, but the studio claims the modifications haven’t affected the acceleration response times and the overall structural integrity of the engine.
The engineers aren’t quite done with their Audi A8 D5 yet. They will be releasing it once they develop the corresponding aerodynamic body kit and boost the performance of the gasoline-driven D5.
