Asked about the glorious rally racing past of Audi, most of us will remember the excellent Sport Quattro. Still, if you don’t have the money for that one and want a car nearly as good for less, you can always take the Coupe Quattro and tune it to taste. One such ride cropped up for sale not long ago.
What you see here is a 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro with tons of hardcore rally mods slapped on. Highlights include protective cladding, a mighty rear wing, a roof scoop, rally wheels and tires, and an impressively sized array of hood-mounted floodlights. A closer look reveals new headlights, lower front apron, hood air intakes and rear window. The interior is stripped clean with an added roll cage, fire extinguisher, and bucket seats with safety harnesses.
Power comes from a thoroughly rebuilt version of the stock 2.2-liter turbocharged five-cylinder. The manual states 166 PS (164 hp / 122 kW) and 213 Nm (157 lb-ft) of torque for the standard engine, but this one has to be more powerful than that. The transmission, the brakes and the suspension have all been reinforced to handle the strain.
Why did it go for a symbolic $17,000, then? Simple: the car has no odometer, and the seller openly admits it has seen better days. Still, we would like to wish its new owner many a rally success and as few breakdowns as possible.
