German automotive giant Audi has begun testing a number of fully self-driving e-tron battery cars in Hefei, China, in a densely populated district with a population of 400,000.
What is particularly interesting is that local residents can freely participate in the tests by calling the EV via a dedicated mobile app and booking a ride.
Weiming Soh, VP of VW China, said this was going to be the company’s first experiment of this kind in the country. He added that the project was “aiming to unite the automotive, digital and electric realms for the customers’ benefit.”
